Dumb Waiters

A dumb waiter is a small freight lift used to move small objects between levels. Dumb waiters are utilised to a large extent by pubs and restaurants to transport food from the kitchen to the dining area. They are also used in libraries to carry books, and in postal distribution centres to move heavy mail between floors.

Dumb waiters are used exclusively for small goods. Safety legislation prohibits passengers riding dumb waiters. Lift heights and load capacities vary, but all dumb waiters should be robust and suitable for rigorous use.

Kitchens, Pubs, Hotels and Offices

movemanSKG has produced dumb waiters for many years and has installed thousands of units in restaurants, pubs, hotels, hospitals, banks and offices all over the UK.

movemanSKG’s standard model, the ISO-A, is ideal for applications where goods need loading or unloading at serving height. It features a hardwearing lift car made from galvanised steel sheets or folded steel, and is supplied with a shelf.

The ISO-A lifts 300kg and has a choice of landing doors, including single, double hinged or bi-parting. Customers have the option of through or adjacent entry. It comes with a twelve month warranty as standard and two inclusive service visits in the first year of ownership.

movemanSKG also tailor builds dumb waiters to suit specific customer requirements and caters for a wide range of applications. This means a movemanSKG dumb waiter will fit when another may not.

A range of features come as standard with all movemanSKG’s dumb waiters. They come with call and send on each landing station, despatching delay service, arrival buzzers and call signals and position indicators on each landing stations.

Application Example

A recent movemanSKG dumb waiter application is Wanis Cash & Carry in London. Wanis Cash & Carry distributes Afro-Caribbean foods and brings in products from Barbados, South Africa and Jamaica. It needed a dumb waiter service lift to transport high-value products from the stockroom to the store floor.

movemanSKG installed an ISO-A dumb waiter at Wanis Cash & Carry. A two-stop lift, it travels nearly three metres and helps Wanis Cash & Carry keep its shelves filled. The dumb waiter at Wanis Cash & Carry fits in a tight space. The application was complicated because the dumb waiter had to avoid existing pipe work in the building.

Romsey based Radcom Technologies Ltd. also invested in an ISO-A dumb waiter lift from movemanSKG, which it uses to move stock between the main workshop and a mezzanine floor storage area. Radcom Technologies two-stop dumb waiter eases manual handling requirements and performs reliably, despite a relentless daily workload.

movemanSKG has a wealth of dumb waiter experience and regularly deals with complex applications. It has a team of professionals that discuss dumb waiter requirements with customers and has worked for a number of big name companies.

movemanSKG’s dumb waiters are renowned for their consistent durability and quality. In addition, all movemanSKG dumb waiters comply with the appropriate health and safety, and building regulations. Call movemanSKG’s friendly sales team now for an ideal dumb waiter lift solution.
